Is taking out car breakdown insurance something that you have to think about?

We all have to make decisions in our life time. Thankfully most of them are fairly mundane, such as should I but some chewing gum or not, and some are very important and even life changing, such as should I marry Elsie or Sadie, or should I become a Trappist monk. Somewhere close to the middle in the decisions to be made scale is should I take out car breakdown insurance or not. However this option should be removed by default from the list of decisions a person has to make in life, because the pros and cons of taking out car breakdown insurance is something that shouldn't be contemplated. It should be a foregone conclusion.

Cars do break down and with amazing regularity. The only way that a car owner or driver would take lightly the issue of car breakdown insurance if he or she believes that it will never happen to them. And who can guarantee you that it won't. The only thing that having car breakdown insurance will guarantee is that if you set off on a journey, and your car does let you down, then the experience will be a lot more pleasant than if you weren't covered.

How unpleasant is a matter of good luck. You can breakdown on a pleasant sprung morning ten minutes walk from your home, or you can breakdown in the Middle of a thundering rainstorm, in driving snow or in the midst of record breaking heat wave. Your car can let you down while driving along a busy motorway in the middle of the rush hour of while parked in the harbour of the most northerly or southerly point in the British Isles.

Admittedly unlikely, but who can guarantee you that it won’t happen. And if it does you have to be ready for it, and move as quickly and as painfully as possible.

You might get lucky and find a local car repair and/or recovery service that aren't prepared to take advantage of your situation. Or you can call up the roadside recovery service through your care breakdown insurance that you decided to take out.

You will be amazed how quickly these companies will appear on the scene, and how professional and pleasant their road side service staff are. In most cases, they will be able to solve the problem on the spot or if your car is in an un-drivable state, your breakdown cover will take care of arranging for a tow truck to come and transport your care to a garage of your choice; even it is at the other end of the UK.

And when your car is on the ramp and you are at home with your feet up, you might even find yourself saying "No that was a wise decision".
