Why car breakdown insurance is a must
Car breakdowns can happen, and not just to those people who run an older car. Even a relatively new car can break down, and when it does, it is usually a big surprise to the car owner. Sometimes the "it can't happen to me" syndrome with some owners gets so powerful, that they refuse to even consider taking out car breakdown insurance. Some of them later live to regret their decision.
Especially now that cars have gone through the rigours of what was a particularly long and tough winter, there are two things that a car owner should be considering. First is to take their car to the nearest garage for a full inspection and service, and secondly to take out car breakdown insurance. These two important acts should go hand in hand, as they mean that a car owner is being responsible enough to both prevent their cars from breaking down and protect themselves from a lot of the inconvenience and unpleasantness if and when it does.
Car breakdowns don't always happen where and when we want them to, with one of the worst scenarios being when a car breaks down on a motorway. If you are driving on a motorway, the driver has to make some serious on-the-spot decisions. First and foremost, a driver should never stop dead on the motorway, as they are placing their lives and their passengers in danger. At any cost he car should be allowed to limp to the side of the road, and if it is possible to ease the car to the nearest service area, this is even more preferable. Whatever the situation, the car's hazard warning lights should always be switched on so that the car can be clearly seen. If you need to step out of the car you should also make sure that you are seen. Many drivers keep a luminous jacket or even a few in their car. If you are one of these sensible drivers, put your jacket on and if you have passengers in the car, convince them to wear theirs also. If you feel that your safety is being compromised, step as far away from the car as you can, whilst keeping eye contact with the car.
These days most people have mobile phones, and as soon as you have made sure that your vehicle can be clearly seen, and your passengers are as comfortable as possible, you should be on the phone to your car breakdown service to report your problem. You will find that they are really efficient and get to the scene of the breakdown very rapidly, especially if it is on a motorway.
You should come through this harrowing experience unscathed and grateful that you decided that car breakdown insurance is a must.
